  A third disc in the ‘Trio’ series is expected later this year, with never-released recordings from the Eighties and NinetiesThe first time Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt sang together, they knew they had something special that needed to be captured on record. But with three of the hottest solo careers going in the Seventies, various record label tangles to work through, and a desire to devote the time such a project would require, it would be more than a decade after they first recorded together that all the details would finally be ironed out so that a proper album was released. It took so long, in fact, that a whole new recording format – CDs – had been introduced by the time the spectacular Trio album was issued in 1987. It was another 12 years before the sequel, the less-than-imaginatively-titled but still musically thrilling Trio II, was released.

“Where Is My Love,” Joe Ely and Linda Ronstadt

Ely is putting the intricately arranged, lovelorn tune out as a single on Rack ’Em Records. He’s performed it solo for many years; his duet version with Ronstadt was recorded in 1987 in Los Angeles and, for whatever reason, never made it onto an album.

It’s coming out now following a recent visit in which the two singers agreed that it needed to be available to fans once and for all.

President Obama honors Linda Ronstadt, Jeffrey Katzenberg, others in Art and Humanities ceremony
The honor was a particularly special moment for Ronstadt, who didn’t make it to her induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April since Parkinson’s disease limits her ability to travel. A military aide brought her into the East Room by wheelchair, but she walked to the stage to receive her award as a citation was read honoring her “one-of-a-kind voice” that paved the way for generations of women artists.
