President Obama honors Linda Ronstadt, Jeffrey Katzenberg, others in Art and Humanities ceremony
The honor was a particularly special moment for Ronstadt, who didn’t make it to her induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April since Parkinson’s disease limits her ability to travel. A military aide brought her into the East Room by wheelchair, but she walked to the stage to receive her award as a citation was read honoring her “one-of-a-kind voice” that paved the way for generations of women artists.

Linda seems too young to be in a wheel chair. I’m sorry to her of her plight.
I especially enjoyed Linda’s collaborations with Nelson Riddle. Her move to record songs associated with the swing era reflected nicely upon her. Those renditions were very enjoyable. It seems as though the “What’s New” album was much needed at the time, a valuable contribution lengthening the life of those well-written songs. Interestingly enough, she recorded with bassist Ray Brown on that album. What an honor for those two to work with each other!
If you feel that “What’s New” album was some of Linda’s best then please check out: http://soaringmusicpublications.com/. There you will find another swing-era effort by a couple of unknowns, but Scott Yanow of the LA Jazz Scene says the concerned CD is “a fun set of excellent jazz.” He also says jazz guitarist Mike Denny is “world class.”
I know Linda would enjoy hearing some of this music, and I hope someone will share it with her. I think she will be inspired.
Respectfully,
Greg
